Message from the Coordinator of Volunteer Services
In 1977 Tahoe Forest Hospital started a volunteer program and has members from throughout the region. Members contribute over 10,000 hours annually; Tahoe Forest Hospital depends on the help of its volunteers.
Choosing to volunteer at Tahoe Forest Hospital is a very rewarding experience. The talents and experience of our volunteers compliment the expertise and professionalism of our staff, ensuring the best of care for our patients. Whether you choose to work at our Information Desk, greeting and assisting patients and families, working with our residents in our Extended Care Center, assisting staff and patients in our Medical Surgery Department or working behind the scenes in varies offices and centers, you can be assured that your time as a volunteer will be well spent.
Volunteering is good for you! By volunteering, you are strengthening our community supporting our patients, visitors, staff and physicians. By volunteering, you are bringing people together working toward a common goal. By volunteering you get a chance to give back. By volunteering, you make a difference!
Whatever your reason for volunteering, we hope you will join our team of volunteers. In order to become a member of our team, you must complete the pre-volunteer process. Please remember this is a hospital and there are health and security items all volunteers must comply with prior to being placed.
Steps in becoming a TFHS volunteer:
1. Complete application
Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 6 months of consistent weekly participation. If you are willing to make this commitment, the first step is to complete an application.
2. Attend interview/information meeting
At this meeting you will complete/review the following:
- Review Membership Policy
- Background Check Release Form
- Receive Occupational Health Forms
3. Complete Background Clearance
Volunteer candidates must successfully complete a background screening. The background check release form was completed at the interview/information meeting. The Background Clearance is provided free of charge by TFHS.
4. Complete Health Clearance
Quantiferon TB Gold Test - Quantiferon Gold testing is a blood test. This blood test will be performed, in place of the TB skin testing (TST). There may be other required draws or immunizations such as but not limited to rubella, Tdap, flu, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella). If you have had these immunizations in the recent past, obtain a copy of the tests from your medical office and bring these copies to Occupational Health. Occupational Health staff will review current requirements with you. The Health Clearance is provided free of charge by TFHS.
5. Successfully complete online TFHS computer based compliance training modules
There are three training modules that you will complete prior to orientation.
6. Attend orientation
Once you have completed steps 1 – 5, you will attend a scheduled orientation meeting.
At the orientation meeting you will:
- Review the TFHS Policy/Procedures including various regulatory guidelines
- Vehicle Registration/Parking Information
- Obtain Photo ID
- Timesheets and Assignment Information
- Obtain Uniform provided fee of charge by TFHS
- A tour of our wonderful campus
