Tahoe Forest Health System presents Rural Health Conference 2013: Rural Medicine in the 21st Century

Tahoe Forest Health System, located in the North Lake Tahoe basin, is coordinating a rural health conference designed specifically for healthcare providers.  This is offered to those that are interested in rural health care, including physicians, nurses, educators, academics, hospital administrators, clinic directors, and medical students.

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS:  Robert G. Gish, MD, Professor of Medicine, Department of Gastroenterology, and Chief of Hepatology, University of California, San Diego, will discuss Hepatitis C and NASH.  Michael Wilkes, MD, Professor of Global Health at University of California, Davis, will review best practices in cancer screening.  Betsy Thompson, MD, DrPH, Chief Medical Officer, Region IX, will address the future of health care reform.  Paul S. Auerbach, MD, MS, Clinical Professor of Surgery in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University, will share his experience with the Emergency Medical Response in Haiti after Hurricane Hanna in 2008.  Thomas L Schwenk, MD, Dean of the University Of Nevada School Of Medicine, will discuss altering your practice for the new reimbursement paradigms.  Don Hilty, MD, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, University of California, Davis, will review the management of psychiatric disorders in the rural setting. Mark Christiansen, PhD, PA-C, NP/PA Program Director, University of California, Davis, will examine how midlevel practitioners can improve practice.  Jennifer Wilson, MD, Emergency Services Medical Director, Saint Mary’s Medical Center, will review challenging clinical cases. 

This conference is an opportunity for you to network with your colleagues and discuss rural health issues, challenges, and solutions that you face every day.  This year the conference will have a variety of clinical topics of interest to rural health practitioners.  We will be sharing rural clinical best practices including therapeutic updates for various diseases, infectious diseases and community acquired pneumonia, managing congestive heart failure in the rural setting, complicated pregnancies and when to refer, pediatrics in rural health, general surgical issues, primary care orthopedics, hepatitis C and fatty liver disease, care of the psychiatric patient, best screening practices, and much more!
