Dr. Kelly is an internationally recognized expert in surgery of the shoulder and elbow. He is an Active Member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons society and co-director of the San Francisco Upper Extremity Fellowship, where he trains two Orthopaedic Surgeons per year in Shoulder and Elbow surgery. His accomplishments include extensive research and publications, lectures, and implant product development. At his hospital, California Pacific Medical Center, he serves as the Vice Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Chairman of Quality Improvement where he leads the department in efforts to improve care for our patients.
Dr. Kelly was born in Honolulu, HI, the son of a career Naval Dental Officer and Nurse. He graduated with High Distinction in Chemical Engineering at the University of Rochester, completed his Medical Degree at Vanderbilt University and then followed his fathers’ footsteps into the Navy where he was a Flight Surgeon for the United States Marine Corps F-18 Squadrons 232 and 101. He himself is a pilot of 3 decades and flies to outreach clinics (including Truckee) monthly to provide shoulder and elbow subspecialty care.
Dr. Kelly lives in San Francisco with his wife, a craniofacial plastic surgeon, and two sons. They very much enjoy music and the outdoors, especially skiing, and this love of sports carries into his expertise and goal of returning athletes to their passions.
Dr. Kelly spends about 50 days a year in the Tahoe area and joined the staff in 2011.
