Dr. Laurence Heifetz Joins Speakers at the Chemotherapy Foundation Symposium™

Laurence J. Heifetz, MD, FACP, Medical Director of the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center, delivered a very well received presentation, entitled “Harnessing Telehealth for State-of-the-Art Rural Oncology,” at the 35th Annual Chemotherapy Foundation Symposium November 9 in New York.

Dr. Heifetz shared his expertise in bringing advanced cancer care to remote rural areas. He developed this model at the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center by partnering with UC Davis to create the UC Davis Cancer Care Network, using telemedicine and virtual meetings with UC Davis physicians to efficiently bring state-of-the-art oncology services and clinical trials to patients the Sierra Valley and South Lake Tahoe.

Dr. Heifetz, Medical Director of the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center, which he founded in 2006, is also a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Heifetz is on the forefront of expanding the use of telehealth for patients in areas not served by a traditional oncology practice.
