Fixing that hitch in your step with a gait analysis
As the snow melts here in Tahoe, people are starting to trade in their winter activities for summer activities. That means more walking, hiking, and running. If you are having pain with any of these activities, a gait analysis may help.
The physical therapists at Tahoe Forest Hospital are movement experts trained to perform gait analysis. During a gait analysis, a physical therapist will watch you walk or run (depending on your activities and what is causing your pain) on a treadmill. The therapist may use movement analysis software such as Dartfish to record videos of you walking or running to help analyze your movements.
Gait analysis can provide insights into your injury and how to treat it. Based on the findings of your gait analysis, the physical therapist may prescribe certain exercises, give advice on how to fix your stride, or provide advice on appropriate footwear. All these things help improve your condition and get you back doing what you love. If you are having pain with walking, hiking, or running, ask your referring provider for a referral to physical therapy for a gait analysis.

Injury Prevention Corner
Strengthen your core to stay injury-free
Many of us are swapping out winter activities for hiking, biking, running, and other summer sports. No matter the season, one of the best ways to stay injury-free is by keeping your core strong and stable.
Your core isn’t just about your abs, it includes the muscles around your pelvis, lower back, hips, and stomach – all working together to support your entire body. A well-conditioned core improves balance, posture, and overall movement mechanics, helping prevent injuries to your upper and lower body. A strong core is key to staying safe and active, whether you’re hitting the trails or gearing up for your next outdoor adventure.
Access simple, practical core exercises here that will keep you strong and ready for every season!
