Under current California law, hospitals are required to establish and make public a list of their standard charges. Tahoe Forest Hospital has been doing that by providing our information to the California’s Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD). In an effort to encourage price transparency by improving public accessibility of charge information at the Federal level, effective January 1, 2019 CMS (Medicare) updated its guidelines to specifically require hospitals to make public a list of their standard charges via the Internet in a machine readable format, and to update this information at least annually.
Tahoe Forest Hospital District, is a Critical Access Hospital System. As such we are afforded additional reimbursement programs which allow for us to maintain financial viability as well as provide capital for expansion programs designed to service the needs of our community.
As part of the Federal Requirement, we are posting our detail charge description master (fee schedule). As a Critical Access Hospital, many of our services are billed in two parts; a facility fee and a professional (doctor) fee. The exceptions to the two parts rule are in our Neurology, Orthopedic , Urology, and Women’s Center Clinics, as those Clinics are set up under different regulations.
When you are looking at our charges, please keep that in mind as both fees are utilized when you are billed for services. In the Ortho Clinic and Women’s Center the prices are the same, just both parts are added together and are included in one line item on one professional bill.
Since going through our Charge Master can frequently be confusing, we have also provided a listing of the top 25 commonly requested procedure estimates as well as a list of the top single items which we frequently get asked to price.
We thank you for considering Tahoe Forest Hospital System for your healthcare needs.
