Understanding Customer Service for Patient Access

Hi, my name is Kat Sigafoose. I’m the Director of Patient Access at Tahoe Forest Health System and I’m here today to talk about our financial customer service team. Our financial customer service team is a community resource that helps you find answers to your financial questions. They are the first point of contact when you receive your first billing statement, whether that’s in the mail or via MyChart. They also make outbound calls to ensure that you do not have any questions on your billing statement. If you do, they’re able to answer your questions as well as provide you resources for different options to help pay your balance due. They can accept payment. They can also set up short-term or long-term interest-free payment plans. Our long-term payment plans are with our vendor Help Financial. They can also screen you for our financial assistance program. This can allow you to potentially get assist with your bill. They can also connect you with our eligibility advocate. Our eligibility advocate can screen and assist you with applying for Medical for California residents or Nevada Medicaid for our Nevada residents. Some other options that the financial customer service team can help you with is they can update insurance coverage. They can update your demographic information. They can provide itemized statements, research refunds. They can also explain your insurance benefits or how your claim may have been processed through insurance. Additionally, they can assist with completion of release of information forms as well as help you with any financial disputes. So, for example, if you feel that your insurance processed a claim incorrectly, they can conference call your insurance company with you on the line to help you resolve that dispute.
