Non-Surgical: Dermal Fillers

What is a dermal filler?

A dermal filler is a non-surgical procedure that helps to diminish facial lines that appear from the natural loss of subcutaneous fat as we age and to restore volume and fullness in the face. A dermal filler can plump thin lips, soften facial creases and wrinkles, enhance shallow contours, improve the appearance of recessed scars, reconstruct contour deformities in the face, and decrease or remove the shadow of the lower lids.

What is the dermal filler procedure like?

A dermal filler procedure starts with facial assessment and mapping. The facial appearance and skin tone will be evaluated and the areas of your face to be augmented will be examined. Strategic points on your face may be marked as the appropriate injection sites for the filler. The injection sites will be cleansed with an antibacterial agent. Injection usually takes only a few moments per site. The process of injecting, massaging, and evaluating the result is performed, and additional filler may be added if needed. Depending on the number of areas to be treated, the whole process can be as short as 15 minutes, or as long as an hour.

What should I expect during recovery?

Recovery time varies for each patient and for each type of filler injected. Most activities can be resumed right away, but it is generally recommended that intense physical activity be avoided for the first 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising.

Your initial appearance after treatment with any dermal filler may include an “overfilled” appearance to treated areas, swelling or bruising ranging from mild to severe, temporary numbness or redness, and palpable lumps or hard areas at the injection sites.

Most conditions can be alleviated with topical icing and massage and will improve within a matter of hours or just a few days. Some reactions may require more aggressive treatment with medications or injections.

If pain or weakness occurs on one side of your body, it is important that you contact our office immediately.

Who is a good candidate for dermal fillers?

Individuals who are in good physical health and do not have any underlying health conditions that could hinder healing, are nonsmokers, have a positive outlook and realistic expectations for the improvement of the appearance, and are committed to maintaining good skin health are good candidates for the dermal filler procedure.

Non-Surgical: Botox®

What is Botox®?

A Botox® injection is a minimally invasive procedure that temporarily reduces or eliminates facial fine lines and wrinkles that become more pronounced as we age. The procedure blocks the nerve signals to the muscle in which it was injected. Without a signal, the muscle is not able to contract. Commonly treated areas include frown lines, Crow’s feet, and forehead creases. Other areas that are treated are the thick bands in the neck, thick jaw muscles, lip lines, and gummy smiles. Results of a Botox® procedure can last for several months before needing a follow-up treatment.

What is the procedure like?

The Botox® procedure is performed during a fast, outpatient service and may take as little as ten minutes to carry out. The formula will be injected into the specified areas of your forehead or upper face using a fine-gauge needle. Most individuals will notice only minor discomfort such as a pinprick or pinching feeling.

What should I expect during recovery?

Due to the minimally invasive qualities, there is no downtime or recovery time. You can resume your everyday schedule following treatment.
