Women & Family Center

Our Women and Family Center provides comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care. With a family centered focus our comprehensive Perinatal Services Program provides individualized support services, teaching, referrals and consultations to expecting mothers and their families. Individual care plans developed on your first visit, which provides you with the guidance to a healthy pregnancy, parenting instruction and preparing the entire family for labor and the arrival of a new baby.

Safe Haven Baby Drop-Off Locations

Our Emergency Room and our Obstetrics Departments (OB) are both Safe Haven Baby Drop-off locations. They allow mothers to surrender their newborns without any questions asked. Babies are given medical attention and confidentiality for the mother is assured.

Other Services Available Through the Women and Family Center

Materials and Videos: Audio and Visual aids addressing obstetrical, infant rearing and women's healthcare issues are available in our Women and Family Center Library.

Breast Pumps and Supplies: The Tahoe Forest Retail Pharmacy offers breast pumps and supplies for purchase. Their knowledgeable staff can help assist you in finding the right match for your needs or refer you to a Certified Lactation Counselor. Infant Hearing Screening: Offered to all infants under the age of six months.

Educational Classes: We offer many educational classes to help understand sibling issues, as well as Lamaze and breastfeeding classes.

Lamaze Based Prepared Childbirth Classes: Childbirth is an exciting time in your families life. Preparing for the delivery of your new baby is an important step in anticipating their arrival. Prepared childbirth classes at Tahoe Forest Center for Health & Sports Performance. will give you the tools that you need to enjoy the birth experience and welcome your baby into your home. Classes are taught by Registered Nurses and/or Certified Childbirth Educators and provide information specific to delivery at TFH.

Classes include: Labor and Delivery - signs, symptoms and stages of labor (Includes practice using the birthing ball, relaxation and breathing techniques); Pain medication options; Birth Video; Newborn Care (includes hand-on swaddling, diapering and burping); Breastfeeding; Pediatrician (meet the pediatrician and see slides of normal newborn appearance and behavior); Car Seat Safety; Home Proofing and Accident Prevention; Choking and Basic CPR Instruction (certification available by attending separate infant/child CPR course).

Breastfeeding Support Group Meetings: Hands on support for New Moms and Their Infants Weekly, Thursdays from 10am-12pm. Informal classes with emphasis on individual teaching for the nursing couplet. Get help with proper breastfeeding techniques, positioning the infant, "latch-on" techniques, sore nipples, engorgement, increasing your milk supply, breast pumps and nipple shields, postpartum issues, bottle feeding, infant nutrition, parenting issues. Facilitated by Cindy Bansen, RN, Certified Lactation Counselor.
