What is the Oncology Nurse Navigator program?

When faced with a cancer diagnosis, patients can experience many barriers to their care. This may include emotional, transportation, and financial barriers. These challenges make it difficult for patients to focus on their treatment and their journey. The Nurse Navigator Program at the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center is designed to help patients move efficiently from referral to consultation and throughout their care continuum. Nurse Navigators (NN) are registered nurses with oncology-specific clinical expertise and specialty certification.

The Oncology Nurse Navigation program is based on the standards set by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and the Academy of Oncology Nurse and Patient Navigators (AONN).
