Director, Community Health and Wellness and QIP
Maria has over 25 years experience in health promotion, education, program development and implementation. Before taking on her new role as Director, Maria was part of a Health Promotions team at Tahoe Forest Hospital for 15 years. She established the Truckee Tahoe Nutrition Coalition which provides hands on nutrition education to children and families, promotes environmental change to prevent childhood obesity, and works to improve the quality of school food and wellness policy implementation in the local school district. She is passionate about helping communities and individuals achieve their best health and is currently working to expand care coordination and patient navigation resources throughout the Tahoe Forest Health System. Maria is thankful that she has the opportunity to work with a dynamic and equally passionate team to bring high quality health resources and programming to the Truckee Tahoe community. Maria received her Bachelors in Dietetics from the University of California at Davis and her Masters in Public Health from the University of California at Berkeley. In addition to her love of food and cooking, Maria is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, skiing, paddle boarding, backpacking, and keeping up with her husband and three college-age sons.
