Nicolas Mills, PsyD
Behavioral Health, Psychology, Tahoe Forest MultiSpecialty Clinics
Profile
Dr. Nicolas Mills joined Tahoe Forest Health System in September 2024. Prior to graduate school education, Dr. Mills worked with different populations of folks with varying acuity levels of mental health-related symptoms and diagnoses, including working as a “registered addiction specialist” (RAS), as a case manager, and as a psychiatric technician in a mental hospital (now called, “Behavioral Health”). He is proud to work with and for individuals seeking help, and is committed to developing creative and effective ways of providing mental health support.
Dr. Mills received a Bachelor of Science from Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff, AZ. He completed his MA in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in Social Justice from Alliant University in San Francisco, and his doctorate in clinical psychology (PsyD) from University of San Francisco (USF) with an emphasis in Health Psychology (the focus of the role of psychology and the unconscious/conscious mind in the “mind-body connection”). He completed his pre-doctoral internship at HealthPoint Primary Care in Washington state, and his post-doctoral fellowship was at San Mateo Medical Center (SMC) hospital in the Pain Management Clinic (PMC).
The majority of his pre-doctoral graduate training and clinical experience has been working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, which he absolutely loves. Dr. Mills has learned that every member of a team is as valuable as each other, and that together, we are stronger.
Dr. Mills is a proud father of a 9-month-old baby girl. He and his partner are active in their hiking, skiing, swimming, and outdoor pursuits, and in his own hours, he plays different instruments, sings and composes, often while working with other musicians on various projects. Give him a guitar, in the forest or on the shore, snow or shine, and that’s his happy place.
