Rethink Healthy
Dry January
Taking a break from alcohol can improve your mental and physical health. The benefits are endless – decrease anxiety, improve sleep, save money, glowing skin and reduced puffiness, reduce risk of cancer, improve hydration, support liver function, create more free time, increased energy, and lower blood pressure to name a few!
Tips for success:
- Be clear on your goal and write it down. Decide how you will track your progress.
- Get support – have a conversation with close friends and family explaining your goal so they can support you (instead of sabotage).
- Find substitutions – Plan a non-alcoholic drink to have available.
- Avoid temptations or tempting situations: This is a great opportunity to try new things, make different plans. Meet up with friends for a walk instead of happy hour.
- Try a new hobby or start a project. Mindless drinking can actually take up a ton of time. Plan ahead to add something fun into your calendar. Take a class with a friend or paint that room you’ve been meaning to.
- Don’t give up: if you slip up start again the next day. The goal here is not perfection. The goal is to increase awareness. If you miss your goal, instead of being hard on yourself, ask questions. What was going on the day that lead you to miss your goal? What can you change next time to set yourself up for success?
