Overview
Health insurance promotes overall well-being by improving access to care, reducing financial burdens, and supporting better health outcomes. Without health insurance, people are less likely to have a regular health care provider and more likely to skip routine health care which puts them at risk for serious health problems (HP2030 – AHS-01).
Goal
Increase the proportion of socioeconomically disadvantaged community members who are currently insured from the baseline of 33.0% (2021) to the Healthy People 2030 target of 92.4% by June 30, 2029.

Currently Insured chart description: Chart shows that currently insured socioeconomically disadvantaged adults grew to 54% in 2025, as compared with 33% in 2021. 93% of randomly surveyed adults in 2021 reported they were currently insured and The Healthy People 2030 target for socioeconomically disadvantaged adults being currently insured is 92.4%.

- Socioeconomically disadvantaged – means living in less favorable social and economic circumstance than others in the same community. For example, it could be not having enough money to meet basic needs, such as rent, food, medicine and transport, or it could be not having access to the same education opportunities or literacy as other people. The disadvantage results from one or more of the following circumstances: poverty, source of income, illiteracy, level of education, address, type of housing or homelessness, employment status or any other similar circumstance.
