Overview
Social isolation and lack of support can significantly harm both physical and mental health. People who are socially isolated are at higher risk for heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety. They are also more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

Rarely or Never Gets Needed Social and Emotional Support chart description: Chart shows that 12% of randomly surveyed adults rarely or never get needed social and emotional support in 2021, compared to 7.2% in 2025. The Health People 2030 target for adults who rarely or never get needed social and emotional support is 7.7%.
