Get to know Whitney Liehr, DO, serving patients since 2025.
I'm Dr. Whitney Liehr. I'm a sports medicine physician with the Tahoe Forest Health System.
What does your ideal workday look like?
I help treat patients of all ages with musculoskeletal injuries. So that's injuries of bone, muscle, tendon, or ligaments so that they can get back to the activities that they love.
Where did you receive your medical training, and what brought you to Tahoe afterward?
I did my medical school at Rocky Vista University in Denver, Colorado with an osteopathic manual manipulation fellowship that took me to southern Utah. After that, I did my primary residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at UC Davis and my sports medicine fellowship with Inter Mountain Healthcare in Provo, Utah.
I grew up in Southern California, but really fell in love with the mountains when I lived out in Utah and spent time in the Bay Area in Sacramento. And so I always knew that I wanted to end up treating and seeing patients in a mountain town. And I'm really excited to be here.
What sports and outdoor activities do you enjoy?
I really love and enjoy all sports. I grew up playing soccer, doing gymnastics, and ran track in college, but I really enjoyed getting into mountain biking, skiing, hiking, camping, scuba diving, really anything that gets me into the outdoors.
What do you enjoy most about caring for patients?
When seeing patients, I love to take the time with them to understand their goals and be able to tailor their treatment accordingly. I also really enjoy working with other health care professionals to further coordinate care and tailor patient's treatment even more. My ultimate joy is when patients are able to leave the office and get back to doing the activities that they're wanting to do.
What can patients expect during their first visit with you?
At your first visit, we'll have a good conversation to understand what's going on and what your goals are. I'll do a physical exam. And then I really enjoy using the ultrasound as a diagnostic tool to better diagnose or accurately diagnose different musculoskeletal conditions. We'll then, you know, go through all of the treatment options and see which of those work best for you and your goals.
Whether you're professional athlete or aspiring to improve your mobility, I encourage you to schedule an appointment and I look forward to meeting you.
