Pediatric occupational therapy focuses on helping children and youth reach their goals and actively participate in their “occupations” – activities that support the health, well-being, and development of an individual. In partnership with families/caregivers, occupational therapists will evaluate, build and provide treatment plans to support the child in their participation.
As children grow, their occupations allow them to develop life skills, be creative and engage in play as well as building relationships. An occupational therapist is able to build age appropriate, evidence based and patient focused treatment activities. These activities often focus on a combination of strategies to support the child’s development, provide adaptive tools or strategies for the child and caregivers as well as adjusting the environment or task to support engagement.
