Preparing for Surgery: How Nutrition Can Improve Orthopedic Recovery
Did you know that preparing your body nutritionally before orthopedic surgery can improve recovery, reduce complications, and help you heal faster? In this video, Tahoe Forest Health System Wellness Dietitian Bret Sarnquist explains why orthopedic nutrition matters and introduces a 4-week Zoom class series designed to support patients before surgery. These classes cover essential topics such as macronutrients and micronutrients for healing, anti-inflammatory foods, the role of protein in recovery, and how to fuel your body for optimal healing.
Classes are offered weekly and can be joined at any point in the cycle. They are about 45 minutes long, held via Zoom, and include time for Q&A. While not mandatory, they are highly recommended for anyone scheduled for orthopedic surgery. As Bret shares, “With good nutrition, you heal better and feel better.”
