At the direction of the Tahoe Forest Hospital District Board of Directors, President and Chief Executive Officer Harry Weis was placed on paid administrative leave after a “closed door session” on May 16, 2024.

Because the board of directors is a publicly elected body, per the laws governing California Special Districts, no specific information related to the discussion around this decision can be provided at this time.

The district is unaware of any official vote of no confidence from the Medical Executive Committee against Mr. Weis, as has been reported by the media.

Further details beyond the administrative leave have not been finalized; however, the district values transparency and will provide additional information as it becomes available.

While Mr. Weis is on leave, Louis Ward has been appointed by the board of directors as Acting Chief Executive Officer to serve on his behalf, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the health system.

“As a board, we are committed to making decisions that reflect the health system’s mission and vision,” said Board of Directors Chair Alyce Wong. “We take the concerns of the medical staff, as well as all departments within the health system, very seriously, and we deeply value the contributions of all staff, providers, and leaders. Most importantly, our decisions are made to ensure we continue providing the highest level of care to our patients and our community.”

The board of directors will continue to provide additional details as it is able.
