Greetings from Tahoe Forest Health System!
Dear Community,
The recent avalanche that took the lives of nine backcountry skiers has profoundly impacted the Truckee-Tahoe region and beyond. For many, these mountains symbolize connection and belonging, and this loss is deeply felt across our community.
We extend our condolences to the families and loved ones who are grieving. Our thoughts are also with those who were injured and everyone working to process this tragedy. Trauma affects each person differently, and both physical and emotional recovery take time.
We express our gratitude to the first responders and Search and Rescue teams, many of whom are volunteers, as well as the partner agencies that acted swiftly. Their efforts reflect the strength and dedication of this community.
In the days ahead, the impact of this tragedy may continue to unfold. Community members directly impacted by the recent avalanche at Castle Peak who need mental health or grief support can call Tahoe Forest Behavioral Health at (530) 582-3505. Introducing “True North” — Your Voice, Our Future
Tahoe Forest Health System is excited to launch True North, a new community engagement initiative designed to bring local voices to the center of future planning. Through June 2026, we’re inviting residents, patients, second homeowners, partners, and staff to help shape the direction of healthcare in our region by sharing what matters most to them.
What is True North?
True North is about listening first. We want to understand what it looks like when a health system truly becomes the center of health in a community. Your input will guide priorities around healthcare access, services, innovation, and the overall patient experience.
Three key focus areas
We’re exploring community-driven opportunities in:
- Health within reach — Improving access to care, reducing wait times, and making services more affordable and closer to home.
- Peaks of excellence — Identifying specialty services and programs that would most benefit the region.
- Transformation — Reimagining care delivery through innovation, workforce development, and new models of care tailored to the mountain community.
How you can participate
We’ll be gathering feedback in a variety of ways so everyone can be heard:
- Online survey
- QR codes at hospitals and partner locations
- Listening sessions and community events
- Collaborations with local organizations
Throughout the initiative, we’ll share updates on what we’re hearing and how your feedback is shaping future decisions.
Your opinion matters — we hope you’ll get involved, learn more, and most importantly, take the survey today.
Thank you for helping us define the future of healthcare in our mountain communities!
