Tahoe Titans Recognized by Tahoe Forest Health System Board After Fundraising Incident

Tahoe Titans team with TFHS Board of Directors

The Tahoe Titans baseball team joined the Tahoe Forest Hospital District Board of Directors at its regular public meeting on February 26.

Just a few weeks earlier, while the team was fundraising in front of the Truckee Safeway, an individual drove a vehicle into the players and parents, injuring several. The team had been raising funds for a dream trip to Cooperstown, New York, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, where they plan to participate in a youth baseball tournament.

Tahoe Forest Health System CEO Anna Roth welcomed the team to the meeting. At one point, she asked for a show of hands from the players who were born at Tahoe Forest Hospital. Every player raised their hand, along with one player’s younger sister.

Ms. Roth told the team, “You have really shown courage, unity and character beyond your years. You’ve reminded all of us what it means to stand together as teammates and as a community. Your strength in difficult moments speaks louder than any scoreboard could.”

Louis Ward, COO, joined by Emergency Room physicians Dr. Aaron Gladman and Dr. Eli Lessard, announced that the Tahoe Forest Health System Foundation would donate $5,000 to help defray costs for the team’s trip to Cooperstown.

Mr. Ward also shared that Tahoe Forest Health System would match the Foundation’s gift for a total contribution of $10,000, stating “It is our sincere hope that this contribution will ensure that every member of the Tahoe Titans can fully participate in this meaningful experience.”
