My name is Tracy Chaney, Volunteer Coordinator at Tahoe Forest Health System. I think I have the best job at the hospital because I get to work with people that want to be here, who choose to be here, and who donate their time to help others at the hospital.
We have about 70 volunteers, and they help in about 16 different departments, and they range in age from high schoolers to great-grandparents. Some have been here a few months, and some have been here 25 years. We have a special volunteer who’s just celebrated her 20th anniversary here, and she has reached 9,000 hours of volunteerism already, and she helps in four different departments at the hospital.
The duties and tasks that volunteers help with in the hospital vary from each department, but the biggest thing they do is just bringing joy and smiles and love to the staff and the patients that enter the hospital. Some of our volunteers greet the patients as they come into the main doors of the hospital. Some of them call bingo in our long-term care facility, and some of them just help out at our thrift store.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, we have lots of opportunities available. We are always looking for help in our thrift store, our hospital gift shop, and our children’s center.
