Tahoe Forest Health System is proud to be recognized for setting the standard of rural health care delivery. Our awards, partnerships and recognitions demonstrate our commitment to creating the best mountain community health system in the nation.
Level III Trauma Center
The Sierra-Sacramento Valley Emergency Medical Services Agency has awarded Tahoe Forest Hospital with the Level III Trauma Center designation. The Tahoe Forest Hospital emergency medicine team has consistently demonstrated their ability to provide advanced trauma life support, evaluation, stabilization, and diagnostic services.
Primary Stroke Center and Stroke Receiving Center
The Sierra-Sacramento Valley EMS Agency (S-SV) has designated Tahoe Forest Hospital (TFH) as a Primary Stroke Center and Stroke Receiving Center for the local emergency medical services (EMS) region. This designation allows Tahoe Forest Hospital to receive patients with stroke-like symptoms, provide a rapid assessment of their condition, and coordinate with local EMS and tele-neurologists to provide expeditious treatment.
Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Rural Recognition Gold Award
Tahoe Forest Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Rural Recognition Gold Award in recognition of its commitment to meeting the unique health needs of rural communities.

Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence
Tahoe Forest Health System has been recognized as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence™ in the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers Program™ (NQMBC™), the highest level of recognition offered by the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC). The certification is awarded to breast centers that demonstrate excellence in quality performance and accountability through rigorous data collection and benchmarking against national standards.
5-Star Rating by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for Patient Satisfaction (2014-2015, 2020)
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) awarded its star ratings to hospitals based on their patient satisfaction scores. Many of the nation’s best-known hospitals received average ratings, but Tahoe Forest Hospital was one of the few hospitals nationally that received an exceptional 5-star rating. These scores are meant to help consumers compare hospital quality measurements.
5-Star Rating by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for Nursing Homes
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded a 5-Star rating to the Tahoe Forest Hospital Long Term Care Center. The overall rating is based on a nursing home’s performance on 3 sources: health inspections, quality measures, and staffing.

We are a proud affiliate of the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, a network that unites five hospital-based cancer centers dedicated to providing exceptional cancer treatment in rural settings.
Commission on Cancer Accreditation with Commendation
The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) has granted three-year accreditation to the cancer program at the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. Read about the accreditation.
UC Davis Rural Center of Excellence
Being designated a UC Davis Rural Center of Excellence recognizes a commitment to offering quality care in our community. Bridging gaps in health care services, linking to specialists, and giving physicians access to the latest medical education and training is important.
UC Davis Rural PRIME Medical Education Program
Tahoe Forest Hospital has partnered with UC Davis School of Medicine to offer an innovative training program for third and fifth year medical students with local primary care physicians. Read more about the Rural Partners in Medical Education Program.

Own the Bone Star Performer
Tahoe Forest Health System received an Own the Bone Star Performer designation, an achievement reserved for institutions that perform the highest level of fragility fracture and bone health care.

Baby Friendly
Tahoe Forest Hospital’s Joseph Family Center for Women and Newborn Care has achieved the highly prestigious international Baby-Friendly designation. This distinguished honor demonstrates that the Joseph Family Center for Women and Newborn Care is adhering to the highest standards of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
Cal Hospital Compare Maternity Care Honor Roll
Tahoe Forest Hospital has been recognized by the California Health and Human Services Agency and Cal Hospital Compare for meeting and exceeding performance standards in key maternal health metrics for 2024. This honor highlights TFH in providing safe, high-quality, and compassionate care for mothers and babies.
Five Star Service Rated Children’s Center
Tahoe Forest Hospital’s Children’s Center is rated 5 stars by the Nevada County Child Care Coordinating Council.

America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics
Tahoe Forest Hospital (TFH) was awarded the Women’s Choice Award for being one of the best hospitals for obstetrics. The TFH Joseph Family Center for Women and Newborn Care is in the top 1% of U.S. hospitals offering obstetrics.

America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience
Tahoe Forest Hospital (TFH) was awarded the Women’s Choice Award for being one of the best hospitals for patient experience. TFH was ranked #39 among 957 in the small hospital size category.

America’s Best Hospitals for Emergency Care
Tahoe Forest Hospital (TFH) was awarded the Women’s Choice Award for being one of the best hospitals for emergency care. The TFH Emergency Department is in the top 3% of U.S. hospitals offering emergency care services.
Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program
Tahoe Forest Hospital and Incline Village Community Hospital are accredited by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), an organization authorized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to survey all hospitals for compliance with the Medicare Conditions of Participation and Coverage.

Exemplary Provider® Accreditation
Tahoe Forest Hospital was granted Exemplary Provider®-accredited status for demonstrating outstanding patient care practices and compliance to comprehensive Safety-Honesty-Caring® quality standards as verified and validated by the Medicare-authorized national healthcare accreditation organization—The Compliance Team, Inc.

Tahoe Forest Hospital and Incline Village Community Hospital have received accolades from the Beta Healthcare Group, professional liability insurer of hospitals, for their participation and achievements in the following programs: BETA HEART®, Emergency Department Zero Harm, and Obstetrical Zero Harm.
Press Ganey Human Experience (HX) Guardian of Excellence Award
Tahoe Forest Health System received the 2024 Human Experience (HX) Guardian of Excellence Award® by Press Ganey. The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have achieved the 95th percentile or above of performance in Patient Experience.

Tahoe Forest Health System has earned the Press Ganey Seal of Integrity for having met scientifically rigorous standards for collecting and publicly reporting patient experience data. The Seal of Integrity affirms the validity of the organization’s transparency program and ensures that physician performance ratings are objectively and accurately represented.
